Getting Ready for the Weekend

I have a busy weekend coming up. Birthday party for John Friday night, on Saturday, baking lots of cupcakes for CTown's 5th Birthday Party and then seeing Micah's show at 11 pm. On Sunday Jay and I are waking up at 6:30 am to go see his friend Jenna host the Today Show. Then brunch with his friend Tara, and then at 5 is CTown's Birthday Spectacular! That should be fun, and hopefully the weather will hold out because it is on a roof!

I've been back to my usual rehearsal-schedule life this week. Wake up early, work for 8 hours, grab dinner to go, run to rehearsal, work until 11, take the subway home, bed by 12:30 or 1. Then wake up early and start again! I like it, but I also really look forward to my nights off. The good thing about that schedule is that having a day of just working 9 to 5 feels like a vacation!

I've also managed to somehow not miss an episode of Project Runway this season. Besides Anderson Cooper 360, that's my favorite show!

This week I've been on the phone nonstop with my financial advisors, trying to figure out how this economic crisis has affected my portfolio. (Just kidding. I have no money). But I have been following it in the news and have gotten completely obsessed with politics again, after my self-imposed exile after Gov. Sarah Palin entered the race. I'm keeping this blog non-partisan, so that's all I'll say about that.

Party in the Hamptons

One of the perks of being boyfriends with Jay (besides the obvious) is that he has a cool job and I sometimes get to find out about news events 2-3 minutes before the rest of the country. Also, he works with a famous news anchor who has a beautiful house in the Hamptons and throws a staff party every year. This year, I went as Jay's guest! I got to meet all his co workers and play volleyball with them. Here are some pictures.

A view from the pool, with the lawn and house in the background:

Dallas!

Jay and I had an awesome time in Dallas two weekends ago (sorry for the delay in writing about it). We got to see a bunch of the family (even though the pool party got rained out), Jay got to eat authentic tex mex (and at Sonic--twice!), and we got to see Jenny and Cindy relive their glory days as volleyball players. Aidan and Kylie were so cute, even though we terrified them with our all-red outfits on Friday. We were very lucky to see everyone!

Here are a few pictures from our trip to White Rock lake:

This week is CRAZY!

I am having a really busy week! Sunday night I got back from Boston, then woke up Monday morning to go to work and realized all the NYU kids are back from summer vacation and all living in my neighborhood and trying to get on the subway for their 9 am classes right when i need to get to work. So the morning trains have been packed (today I watched 3 trains go by, filled with people, before I could finally squeeze onto one!)

CTown has a rehearsal or business meeting every night this week, and today I am working until 5, tutoring until 7, and then rehearsing until 11. That's going to be my schedule on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from now until December.

But most importantly this week, I am leaving to go to Dallas on Friday!! Jay and I are very excited to see everyone!

Boston with Jay and Tropical Storm Hanna

Jay and I went to Boston this weekend! Just a quick trip, leaving Saturday morning and coming back Sunday night. It was so nice! I got to show Jay the Boston that I know and he showed me Charlestown, where he lived while he produced a story about the Boston Police. On Saturday, the sky was threatening to rain all day (Tropical Storm Hanna--which is NOT a hurricane anymore, as Jay frequently reminded me). But Sunday was beautiful!

On Saturday we walked around Beacon Hill and Back Bay:

We had dinner on Saturday night with Scott, my directing mentor and professor from BU. On Sunday we walked across the Charlestown bridge:

walked up the Bunker Hill Monument (all the way to the top!):

got smoothies from the Monkey Bar (remember that place, Jenny and Cindy?):

got on the T to the BU East stop and walked down Comm Ave past all my school buildings:

and then I showed him Allston, including the old party house on Pratt Street:

Then we took a bus to Cambridge where we collapsed with exhaustion. We refueled at an IHOP and then took the T back to the Common. At this point we were so tired, so we got on a bus back to New York and were home by 10:30.

Yesterday

Yesterday I took a day away from political news, since watching the Republican Convention gave me nightmares and a tummy ache the next day. It was great! I read a play, researched grad schools, and had lunch with Jordan and Geo. I met them at Viacom and we sat in the lobby by Jordan's desk and watched "What Not to Wear".

I went home after work and took a nap, then went to TJ's for a CTown meeting. It was a great meeting and we all laughed a lot. There was one point when we were all laughing so hard we were crying. I can't believe we got as much business taken care of as we did! We were in a giggly mood.

I rode my bike home and talked to Jay on the phone, then went to bed. Today my homework assignment from the meeting is to research how to hook up a computer to a TV for the workshop of Jordan's show.

Tonight I'm going to the Metropolitan Museum with Jessma and this weekend Jay and I are visiting Boston!

I love you Mom

A week or so ago i got this email from my Mom:

Mattie,
I think that you should start a blog. I would love to read about what you are doing.
Mom

My first thought was that I wasn't calling her enough and this was her subtle way of letting me know. (That may be true). But then I thought it could be a fun way to let my family know what I do on a day to day basis. So here it is! A blog for my Mom.
